1st Place - Denizens of the Steep

Orijin Media / Josh Metten / Zach Montes

“For Ski Mountaineer and guide Kim Havell, the mountains are a place of adventure and solitude in wild places. However, the explosion in popularity of backcountry skiing, especially in the high alpine of Grand Teton National Park, has her concerned about a remnant population of bighorn sheep who are now on the verge of extinction. Denizens of the Steep connects the joy of backcountry skiing with the urgent need to conserve an iconic species.”

2nd Place - Against The Current

National Wildlife Federation Great Lakes Regional Center and produced by Jordan Browne and executive produced/written by Drew YoungeDyke.”

“Invasive carp are a national problem requiring a national solution. Against the Current explores the impact invasive carp are having on Southern and Midwestern waters and the threat they pose to the Great Lakes and their connected waters by sharing business, tourism, tribal, fishing, outdoor recreation, scientific, and conservation perspectives from northern Michigan to Tennessee. Learn how invasive carp are harming our waters, how they threaten our values, what has been done, and what still needs to be done to stop invasive carp.”

3rd Place - Roots of Change

Calgary Heritage Roasting Co.

“Over the past 5 years we (Jamie and I) have shaped what we want CHRC to stand for. As avid outdoorsmen and conservationists, we believe it is our responsibility to effect positive change and use Canadian Heritage Roasting Company to amplify that message. We are more than black stuff in a cup, we are a lifestyle brand that strives to take a step each day towards a better and more sustainable future. Our collaboration with Summit Reforestation and our partnership with 2% for Conservation allows us to get that much closer to that goal of planting 1 million trees by 2030. This is just the beginning and we appreciate the opportunity to share our story!”

1st Place - Conservation Unfiltered Podcast by Jason Crighton

“This podcast is dedicated to promoting conservation and the people who work tirelessly to advance it. Jason does a wonderful job bringing on guests that are both experts and "regular" people who work to advance conservation. His goal is to showcase the need for conservation work to be done through the North American Model of Conservation that is easy to understand for everyday people. This work is done through his passion for the outdoors even though he does not make any money off of it… just the satisfaction he is taking a step toward advancing the public's knowledge of conservation issues.”

2nd Place - Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable by Michael Neiduski

"That said, DEI issues are systemic issues and the world of conservation is most certainly a system. It is plagued with the same DEI issues as any here in the US, be it racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, etc. It's within our conservation community and needs to be addressed.

If we truly want to conserve and protect the spaces, species, and ecosystems we all cherish then all need to be welcome.

What better audience [than 2%’ers] to reinforce the needed message of interrogating our beliefs and actions for the betterment of the conservation community and all who benefit from the important work we're doing than the committee and actively involved business and individual members of 2% for Conservation. It's a needed conversation to be had. Why not start at the top?”
